Hello Illinois, the Land of Lincoln. It’s a beautiful (state) countryside and Illinois has great cities like Chicago obviously that attracted me to live there a few years ago. While I loved getting to know the people of Illinois and taking advantage of the incredible opportunities, there one thing I did not like was seeing the critical need for mental health therapists and psychiatrists there. I found that many clinicians actually only take Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois leaving many patients hanging and needing to continue to call around. The people of Illinois deserve better. When I was working at Hazelden Betty Ford, Gateway Foundation, and Northwestern University, I recognized that many individuals in Illinois are highly motivated to get better if they have the right care. If you have Aetna Cigna Humana United or Optum or Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois please give us a call today, we’d be happy to see you. Thanks a lot.
Are you looking for the best psychiatrist in Illinois? With the introduction of online psychiatry, also known as telepsychiatry, residents in Illinois have many options to choose from when it comes to mental health care implemented by quality health care providers. There are a variety of psychiatrists available and it is important that you find one that works for you and your lifestyle.
We offer solutions for a wide range of psychiatric conditions. We dedicate our practice to online psychiatric counseling for mental health services, so this is what we excel at. We are very efficient in getting you seen and helping patients learn how to use the technology so it is not a hindrance to the visit. We will walk you through the setup so you can think about what you’ll say to your provider and not how to set up your computer.
Q: How do I find the best online mental health care from an online psychiatrist or mental health professionals?
A: Consider online psychiatric services via virtual visits with our practice. We have many providers in and around the Chicago area.
Telepsychiatry is the application of telemedicine to the specialty field of psychiatry. The term describes the delivery of psychiatric care and assessment through video conferencing or virtual visits.
According to data collected by Merritt Hawkins, there are 8.99 psychiatrists licensed in Illinois, per 100,000 people. This ranks 17th in the country, which is only slightly better than Alaska (which has 8.92) and below the national average of 9.35. There is an uneven distribution of psychiatrists in the state, as there are still 123 health shortage areas, with 30.5% unmet mental health needs in the state. It would take 71 psychiatrists in the state to remove the HPSA designations in the state. Put in other words, each psychiatrist treats on average 11,068 Illinoisians.
According to the Behavioral Health + Economics Network (BHECON), Illinois needs to increase its current workforce over 3.5x to meet residents’ need for services (source). In February, 2020, U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) met with members of the Illinois Critical Access Hospital Network to address rural health workforce shortages. “When I visit rural communities in Illinois, those are some of the concerns I hear from people who are facing real challenges accessing quality, affordable health… That’s why I’ve introduced bipartisan legislation to tackle these rural health challenges.” (source)
